Angel Robotics WSF1 Vision Concept wins Red Dot: Best of the Best 2025! 🎉🎊

We’re honoured to share that the Angel Robotics WSF1 Vision Concept, designed by Move Lab, has received the Red Dot Design Award 2025 – Best of the Best in the Design Concept (Professional) category—the highest recognition in one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions.

Commissioned by @angelrobotics_official , the Vision Concept reimagines wearable mobility for individuals with paraplegia—autonomous, empowering, and aesthetic.

Building on the award-winning WSF1 Cybathlon prototype (developed by Exo Lab and also designed by us), this next-generation wearable robot autonomously walks to the user, dons itself so it can be worn independently without assistance, and delivers multi-directional, crutch-free mobility through 12 high-torque actuators and advanced control algorithms. Beyond physical performance, its prominent center screen provides SAT-Nav and multi-view functions, enabling safer and more sociable mobility.

From its neoprene-covered hip joints to its powerful, flowing silhouette, every detail was crafted with dignity, confidence, and individuality in mind. It’s not just a wearable robot—it’s a personal mobility experience that moves with you like a fashion statement.

On July 12th, our intern designer Sejoon Oh @sejoon_oh - leader of the KAIST Team Lucy (with Seunghee Hahn @_swishee , Hajin Joo @adamjoo2005 , and Namkyu Yeo @duskarb ) took home the Grand Prize at the 2025 AI Creative Challenge hosted by DIDP (Daejeon Institute of Design Promotion)! 🏆✨

Their winning concept, EXHALO, is a fire-rescue drone that arrives on site before firefighters to extract toxic smoke from buildings—addressing the leading cause of fire-related fatalities: suffocation.

A team of expert mentors - Prof. Hyunjoon Park @hyunjoon333.aa of Move Lab (KAIST), Prof. Eunyoung Kim @tatekim00 of Hongik University, and lead mentor Sungchan Go @sungchan.design of Samsung Electronics - guided the teams through the world of generative AI . Their expertise helped shape not just the outcome, but the future designers behind it.

The judging panel featured industry and academia heavyweights, including Yeongsu Han of LG, Bongkyu Song (Director of BKID), Minkyu Choi (Director of Hiphenate), Prof. Kihyun Kim of K-Arts, and Seungwon Kwak (Director of Joy Design).

The designs were judged on creativity, aesthetics, business potential, effective use of the listed technologies, and overall application of AI tools, where EXHALO outperformed other impressive entries. The design works will continue to be refined through Fall semesters and will remain confidential for the time being 🙂

We’re so proud of Sejoon and the Lucy team—and excited to see what it will become in the “Mobility Design with AI” course this Fall at ID KAIST! 🚀

On July 10th, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting Yunsik Hwang, Senior Exterior Designer at Li Auto, for our very first Move Lab Seminar!

He took us on a ride through his journey—from dreaming of becoming a car designer in Korea, to studying at the CCS in Detroit through high school years in Canada, to designing electric motorcycles for Henry in Detroit, and currently designing premium electric cars for Li-Auto in China.

We got to flip through his stunning college portfolio (including the Range Rover that turns into a bench, and hear the stories behind a Genesis concept inspired by the tension generated in the moment right before the conductor begins to swirl his baton).

From a live Photoshop sketch session to designing with AI tools, Yunsik’s apporach was so effortless and silky just like the Li-Auto cars he‘s designing now. It was a priceless opportunity we thoroughly enjoyed. We chatted about life in modern day China, essential skills for young designers, and even where the industry might be headed next.

We value freedom of creativity in divergent thinking, and we encourage designers to generate the broadest spectrum of ideas to bring about the most relevant and innovative design solutions in the early phase. But once the theme is chosen, we don't stop until its essence is captured and the form manifested in reality, pursuing the best we can possibly get whether it means going extra miles or millimeters. Our design intern @j_castlee evaluating different iterations of the 'black mask' that he surfaced for the WSF1 Prototype.
